A lot of the reason Isis practiced her magic here wasn't just to keep herself sharp, and burn off excess energy, no. It was to get used to how the energies flow in this Nexus. The Nexus, she theorized previously, was the path of least resistance. But, to go upstream, one must learn how the river flows.

It had taken weeks of little variations, little experimentations, to get the summoning gate to not collapse within a few seconds of creation. Even then, it wasn't always sending her home.

This time, however. This time she got it right. It had taken a little bit of experimentation with that PIN device to start learning coordinates (as, numbers too have meaning, as well as words) and corresponding with those, she was able to find her home.

At what was midnight of Christmas Day (Which, technically, made it the 26th, but time is weird, remember?)

However, she didn't leave the Nexus yet. She gets the feeling that this world of worlds will be a part of her life forever, not even to mention the friends--and girlfriend, for that matter--she's found in this place.

Isis wanted to share this moment with Eiko. Going back, with her. Isis knew now it was safe, as well. As such, she went to seek out her girlfriend.

Eiko is out in the Sanctuary Yard, practicing.

As Isis comes out, she's got a board set up, stuck in the ground and the drawing of a human figure on it with a set of markings on it. She's standing there, absolutely still, and with her right hand pulled back. Then she shifts the arm, and her hand is through the board, fingerpoints first, and she withdraws it slowly.

The hole is exceptionally neat.

Then she turns to Isis, brushing some small bits of wood from her hand.

"Hello." She gives Isis the very small smile she reserves for the other girl.

As she comes out, she watches this, allowing Eiko to finish what she's doing before speaking. Discovering that yes, she's been noticed, however...

Isis returns the small smile with one of her own, that gets into a broader one, "I got the Gate to work again!" She glomphugs Eiko with a happy little squeal and kisses her too. This, my friends, is a victory for Isis. As Eiko will know she's been poking and prodding at this for a while.

About the only time she didn't is when they were sex cursed, or when Isis was male (with the latter, however, she was careful not to use any magic. Her energies were a little out-of-whack).

She blinks at the wood, now, "..Wow. That's.." She's impressed, but doesn't really know what to say about it. "But, um. Anyway."

"..Do you want to, um. Come with me? You can meet my dad and we can have some semblance of normalcy or something."

The kiss is returned, as is the hug. Eiko is a great deal less demonstrative than Isis, the result of her abusetraining; the fact she does this is, for her, as demonstrative as her screaming hooray and doing cartwheels of joy.

"...do you think they would mind? I do not wish to, uh, get in the way..."

Date: 2007-12-26 09:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] oppositionwalks.livejournal.com
The only reason she isn't bouncing at the moment is because she's still hugging Eiko. Although I'm sure Eiko would appreciate said bouncing.

"You would not get in the way." Isis says, quietly, but firmly, a kiss to Eiko's nose to seal the deal. "And, um." She blushes a little, "I do want you to meet my dad."

Of course, there will be NO MENTIONING of the sex curse. Or Isis turning into a dude. Or the Nexus (Yet, anyway, she hasn't quite figured out how to explain that). And Eiko's own secrets are also safe with Isis.

Because one doesn't exactly go 'my girlfriend's a ninja' to someone who still has a little trouble wrapping his mind around all the weirdness magic tends to entail. "But we could go somewhere, do something fun, or just, you know, be together."

Although they won't be getting together in the biblical sense in Isis's home-bedroom. That's. um. ...

She gets loud when she's with Eiko.

She nods. "All right. I just do not wish to be in the way." She touches Isis's face softly. "Or cause you a problem." She takes a deep breath. "I will pack; how quickly do you wish to go?"

From: [identity profile] oppositionwalks.livejournal.com
She unconsciously leans into the touch, closing her eyes. "You wouldn't be in the way, not as far as I'm concerned." She squeezes Eiko gently, hopefully reassuringly, her arms still around the other girl. Isis also opens her eyes. "And, um. I don't think there would be any problems."

"Actually." Isis says, after a moment of thought, "I was thinking about starting to live, um. Here. In the Nexus, at least until something better comes up." The unsaid portion of this is: 'So I can keep staying with you.' "But somewhat soonish, yes. Right now it's midnight at home, but if we give it a little while..."

She nods. "Until - unless - I find somewhere else to reside and work, then I will be here, too. But family is important." Oh, that ethic. "So do not just come here and forget them." She detaches. "Let run and pack." A quick kiss, and then she's inside.

From: [identity profile] oppositionwalks.livejournal.com
"And then." Isis says thoughtfully, "Maybe I could. um." She blushes a little, "Go with you." Isis won't forget her family. Hell, now that she's got the PIN coordinates, PINning back and forth will become a regular thing. The kiss is returned, though, and Isis blinks. Damn she's fast, but Isis is jogging after quickly, to pack, too.

As she was planning on staying at her Aunt's for a few days anyway, she's got several sets of clothing and such, as well as her Laptop to pack.

It doesn't take her long, either way, before she's meeting Eiko.

She's going to draw the summoning gate in her room, apparently (That's the fun part about them, they can be generated anywhere).

Eiko is suddenly there, and has the rolling suitcase that they discovered, and the Shamisen case.

"I am ready."

Longtag is looooong

From: [identity profile] oppositionwalks.livejournal.com
Isis can barely sense Eiko's presence until she does that. "I am as well." She leans over and kisses Eiko on the lips, setting her backpack and rolling suitcase aside. "Now." She pulls a piece of white chalk out of her backpack. "This is going to take, um, a couple of seconds to set up."

Isis takes the chalk between her hands and blows on it a moment. Eiko will feel a little ping of Isis's energies changing slightly, as she feeds the chalk the innate magical power it needs to successfully create the gate (This can, theoretically, be done with any object that can write or leave a mark, it's just that chalk universally works).

She begins to draw a large circle on one wall. If Eiko recalls Isis's rather unorthodox entrance into the Sanctuary, the finished product looks a lot like that, except it's only faintly glowing. Isis jots in the final marks in the three center circles.

Isis drops the chalk back into the little black cloth bag she keeps it in, and that goes back into the backpack's smaller pocket with the rest of her Various Small Objects. "It'll be like, um. Any other Nexus portal." Isis explains, "You step past the gate, and you go through to the destination." Isis points to the bottom-right circle, which is marked with the location of her home (in English). "I think there's a couple of seconds of delay once you pass through, but I'm not entirely sure, time's difficult enough to judge between here and home."

Isis takes a step back, taking a deep breath, and gesturing her right palm flat towards the gate. There's another, more significant (especially compared to the previous one). The symbols form of light and in the air around the wristband on Isis's wrist, and they actually move. The symbols themselves shift to the right by one 'mark' (The circles on either side of them also move, turning to the left, but one can't tell this, because there's no frame of reference).

The drawn gate glows brighter. The three circles in the middle vanish, and it 'collapses' inwards, not unlike a vortex that has no pull on the world around it, ending at the outer ring of the drawn gate.

"And that." Isis says quietly, "Was what it was supposed to do."

Eiko watches the process.

"....that was very impressive," she comes to say, finally. Then she gestures. "You first?"

From: [identity profile] oppositionwalks.livejournal.com
Isis blushes a little. "Um. Thanks." A little sheepish look that one can only give those they like, and believe at the same time.

"It, um. Might also be a little rough, it was the past few times I tried, but to use the analogy I did earlier, it's going 'upstream', so.."

Isis takes a moment, taking a deep breath, closing her eyes (more out of habit, for any other reason) and stepping through the portal. It ripples a little outward with her as she passes through.

When Eiko steps through, the ride is a difficult sensory experiance to describe. For what seems like a few seconds of brightness passing by, she will step out into another bedroom. It might be a little disorienting, going suddenly from one place to another, but no more so than PINpointing likely is.

Isis's bedroom. The bed is predictably large and squashy, there's a large bookcase with books of wildly varying age--really old, and some recent and modern. There's a desk off to one side, and various fantasy posters hanging on the walls.

Isis herself is standing just a bit away, and she collapses the gate once Eiko's through. Black-lined drawing of the gate remains behind (although the three center circles are blank).

Eiko looks mostly unmoved by the transit. She puts down the suitcase and shamisen case first of all, and then looks around.

"It is nice. And it is very obviously yours."

One of the things that Eiko likes about the room she has in the back of the Sanctuary is that it is, in a way, truly hers. The room she had at her foster parents was not really hers despite their urges she accept it that way, and the room at her parents' was never really hers - it was theirs, and she just lived in it.

"How noisy was it? I hope we did not awaken anyone, or tht I will disturb anyone if they come down and see me asleep on a couch."

Because that bed? Probably not enough for two, even if they won't be doing anything.

Isis takes a moment to fiddle with the PINpoint. While traveling by Gate and all is neat, gods only know how long that'll remain stable as far as the Nexus goes. When she gets her homeworld's coordinates locked in, it beeps quietly, and she places it back in her pocket.

"It's only me and my Dad here." A beat, "Well, the cat too, but he's an old friendly fluffball."

Predictably, if by knowing the way that cats just Know Things, said old friendly fluffball arrives, and in what can only be described in a deep bellow of a meow, announces his presence, and immedietly starts winding himself around Isis's legs. He's a black Persian (who, judging from that bellow of a meow, is probably not a purebred one). Isis squats down and scritches him, "Hey, Edgar." Natch.

"As for my Dad, as long as we explain who you are, we, um, shouldn't have any problems as far as that goes." Thoughtful expression while she pets Edgar, "..Although I still have no clue how to explain the Nexus to him."

Date: 2007-12-27 11:03 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blenderteen.livejournal.com
"Carefully and with some amount of lying would be best." What?

She looks at the cat. "I forgot to bring treats. You didn't tell me you had a cat. Now I will never be able to broker a peace treaty with him." Visually, she measures the tail - there's stories about cats with long tails her mother used to tell her to terrify her so she'd be twitchy.

Date: 2007-12-27 11:25 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] oppositionwalks.livejournal.com
Isis keeps petting Edgar, who, in response, purrs and is totally an attention whore, "That might be best. He has enough trouble grasping the weirdness I already entail." Not to mention her aunts and uncles, that's part of the reason she doesn't know them well. Her father has a little trouble accepting that much weird at once.

Of course, exempting her Aunt Sarah, they've not really made much effort either.

In response about the cat, "It didn't occur to me." Isis looks a little sheepish. "You aren't allergic or anything, are you?"

The best way to describe Edgar is that he's roundish and stout for a cat, and a lot of fluff. As such, his tail isn't particularly long is it is fluffy. He bellow-meows at Eiko, and winds around her legs as well. Hello person who smells a lot like Isis! He's purring still, too.

"Seems a treaty's not needed." Says Isis with an amused sort of look.

Date: 2007-12-28 02:49 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blenderteen.livejournal.com
"I suppose we will find out together, then," she says, and reaches down to pet Edgar. "I always thought cats were combatative creatures who did not deal with unknown persons well."

Long-tailed cats are magical creatures who sometimes are of ill-intent. Edgar's lack of Very Long Tail makes him much more acceptable.

"Where should I sleep? Is there a couch?"

Date: 2007-12-28 03:04 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] oppositionwalks.livejournal.com
"Well, in my experiance, cats tend to notice things about people, both mystically and mundanely." Isis says, as Edgar purrs like a little fuzzy motorboat as Eiko pets him, "I mean, you, um. To him, probably smell similar as I do, so.." Not to mention that Isis implies that Edgar might be picking up on the 'mixed energies'. He might not be, but cats have almost always been attracted to those of mystic ability.

Ever wonder why?

Edgar isn't anything special, though, just a fat ball of fluff who adores attention.

"Yeah, there's a couch. You want your stuff with you, or do you want to just leave it in here? I don't mind either way." But if Eiko wants her stuff with her, Isis'll help carry it downstairs.

Date: 2007-12-28 06:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blenderteen.livejournal.com
"For quiet's sake, best leave it here for a little bit. We should lie down before we end up waking your father."

She leans forwards and gives Isis a kiss.

"I will see you in the morning."

Date: 2007-12-28 06:49 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] oppositionwalks.livejournal.com
Isis kisses Eiko back, "Yes, that would probably be best."

Isis then takes the time to show Eiko where the couch is, and Isis finds the spare blanket and pillow for her as well (Even if Eiko insists she wants neither, she's getting them because it's the polite thing to do, and she wants to).

Still, after Isis heads back upstairs, aside from a fat, furry purring catloaf possibly sharing the couch with Eiko, the rest of the night goes by uneventfully. She's lucky Edgar chooses to stay on the back of the couch, rather than trying to sleep on Eiko's back, a trait he's particularly famous for.

Well, until about eight in the morning, anyway, when Anton awakens, and comes downstairs. He's still in a half-asleep fog, seeking out that lovely coffee.

It's astounding what the human body can do on autopilot, isn't it?

Date: 2007-12-28 07:04 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blenderteen.livejournal.com
Despite how late they got in, Eiko is awake, and therefore all he will note is the pillows and the carefully folded blankets on the sofa.

Eiko, having done her morning run, exercises, and shower, can now be found in the kitchen, where there is a coffeepot full of the stuff made, toast in the toaster about to spring up, and two covered plates, one with bacon and one with slices of ham. She, herself, is making an egg.

We'll see if this is a good 'first impression'. It may well not be.

Date: 2007-12-28 07:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] oppositionwalks.livejournal.com
At the moment, Anton's still at the level of 'functioning nonsentient entity' as someone else might put it, so Eiko may be noticed, but it doesn't quite register for his need of coffee is great. It does make him pause when he realizes it's already made, but he's already pouring himself a cup about three seconds later.

Seriously. You could time it. When he drinks the coffee, he starts to move more towards the 'functioning sentient' range of life. He turns, and sees Eiko, and makes a rather surprising yelp noise, and stumbles a bit (it may not be amazing ninja skill, but he manages not to spill any of his favored beverage in this stumble-flailing event). He saw dark hair and short, and assumed it was Isis back (although Isis's cooking is a little bit of a risky event, but anyway). He blinks twice. "... Hello."

Anton is a short fellow. Taller than both of the girls, but admittedly not by much. Eiko will note that Isis-as-a-guy favored him heavily in appearance, although Anton is older, and his hair is notably shorter, as well. Unlike his alternate, he's got both eyes, though.

The smell of food, combined with the yelp, has drawn Isis out from her upstairs lair, as well. She's stretching and yawning a little. "Hey Dad."

Date: 2007-12-28 07:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blenderteen.livejournal.com
Thankfully, Eiko isn't the sort of person to jump.

"Hello," she says, "how do you take your eggs?"

Date: 2007-12-28 07:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] oppositionwalks.livejournal.com
Anton blinks again. Glancing at his coffee, and back to the girl cooking. "Er. Sunny side up." And a glance to Isis, to, you know, explain this please.

Isis is doing her part in putting food in Edgar's bowl, and refilling his water, "Dad, this is Eiko. Eiko, this is my father, Anton Macrow." Isis takes a moment, and speaks once more, "She's my girlfriend." Yes. That sort of girlfriend, not the other type.

Anton blinks, then grins, "Well, I was wondering if you'd ever express any interest at all."

Edgar, not one to be left out of this conversation, wanders in, announces his presence with another bellow of a meow, and goes to eat, too.

Date: 2007-12-28 08:10 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blenderteen.livejournal.com
Eiko, for her part, is working on making eggs sunny side up. Because she's trying to make a good impression, you know.

"Hello," she says politely, as she cooks.

Thankfully, she's facing away from Anton when he says that, so he doesn't see her blush.

Date: 2007-12-28 08:59 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] oppositionwalks.livejournal.com
Isis, however, does blush, quite flamingly at that. Anton just chuckles aloud. "What brought you back, anyway?"

"Like I explained before, the Gate sent me to the wrong place." Isis keeps petting Edgar while he eats. Edgar, for his part, is in hog heaven, and is purring as a result. "and, well. I've been staying with Eiko for the duration. We hit it off." In a manner of speaking. Isis shrugs a little, and stands back up, washing her hands and starting to fix herself breakfast as well, from what all Eiko's set out.

Anton sips his coffee, "Where'd you end up?"

Isis quickly comes up with a plausible lie, borrowing a little bit of what Eiko told her, "Er. Somewhere in Pennsylvania." A glance to Eiko. "I think there was something that went wrong on Sarah's end, although I don't know what. It took a little time for me to get a gate to function where I was." Luckily, she doesn't have to explain why.

"At least you're alright. I was worried for the first couple of days, since you said you'd call or something."

"That took a little bit too." Isis looks a little sheepish.

Date: 2007-12-28 09:52 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blenderteen.livejournal.com
"I live a somewhat austere life and do not have a telephone," Eiko explains. "It had also just snowed heavily, and until the area I was in was plowed out, it was not quite safe for her to walk to the gas station - or the Starbuck's - to send you any messages." That does explain a lot, doesn't it.

A plate with two eggs, sunny-side up, is presented to Anton. "The bacon and ham should still be warm." Then she looks at Isis. "How do you take your eggs? We never had eggs when you were staying with me."

Date: 2007-12-28 10:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] oppositionwalks.livejournal.com
Yes, yes it does. And Eiko is given a momentary--and brief 'thank you' glance, because she was out of ideas to BS. "I take them scrambled, please?" She asks, "And it was, er. Too much snow for me attempt to power through magically, since I've not ever seen much of it."

Anton, for his part, nods, "That makes sense, I suppose. I am glad you took her in, Eiko." A glance to Isis, with a playful grin, "As well as my daughter finally showing interest in someone like that." He also starts to eat, about now.

Isis blushes and just turns around to nobody can see it (Except Eiko, because she's standing vaguely near her the way the Kitchen is arranged). "Daaaad. Quit it."

Date: 2007-12-29 02:28 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] blenderteen.livejournal.com
Eiko beings making scrambled eggs, as requested.

"She appeared out of a wall of the courtyard of my home and landed in my koi pond. It seemed rude to turn her out into the snow when she was quite damp." Cooking continues. "She never quite gained the taste for rice for breakfast."

Date: 2007-12-29 03:21 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] oppositionwalks.livejournal.com
Isis raises an eyebrow, "I was getting to actually like it, actually." She sticks her tongue out at Eiko.

"Yeah, I came in wet and cold, and she attended to me." Isis does glance at Eiko with a small smile at that. They did help one another, in a sense, although not in the way that they're telling Anton.

Anton doesn't realize this, thankfully. "Aaah. I see." He eats thoughtfully, occasionally taking a drink from his coffee.

"And from there, we just.. got to talking, and we hit it off." Isis continues, eating a piece of bacon. Mmm. Bacon. She swallows before continuing, "After we were sure I wouldn't get sick from being cold, I started making attempts at making a new Gate every couple of nights. Because the location was different, and I had no base, it was harder to do." Now she manages to come up with a half-truth excuse.

She's also debating saying that she wants to start to live on her own, more correctly, with Eiko, but that's going to be an interesting subject to broach.
